The Circus & Fairground featured so much in my childhood . I visited the big top at Olympia as a treat for the children of my fathers factory , so exciting.
I know that animal welfare must be considered , but seeing the lion tamer put his head in the lions mouth was second to none for excitement.!!
Saw the original Coco the Clown , and the Peirrot ...the trapeze wow...
The Kursaal at Southend-on-Sea was close to my grandmothers home and The Crooked House in Peter Pan's garden was built with the help of an uncle , I loved the wishing chair in there , you slid downwards because it was crooked you would make a wish ...I'm sure there was a sleeping beauty or mermaid in there ? that breathed up and down very realisticly.
Still get the buzz whenever I see a big top or funfair...The Wall of Death & The Rota were two of my favourites, not forgetting The Caterpillar .
Marissa Karniski's ' Ghost Train is fabulous , a must see for perf' art ,fun fair fans . Long live the fun of the fair. Clara
